 ============================================================================

 1. DOS

   1.1. 3D Acceleration.

You can use 3DFX (with Glide 2.x installed) or S3 Virge compatible
chipset for 3D acceleration (65535 colors), and VESA 2.0 with or without MMx.
Just select from the video device list.

   1.1. Sound Cards Selection.

If you know your sound card, just pick the correct card one
     from the SETUP program.

If you select a sound card that is not present in your machine, your
machine may lock-up, or the sound card may stop responding. Either of
these situations may be corrected by simply turning off the computer,
waiting 15 seconds and then turning it back on.

   1.2. Sound Card Troubleshooting

Here are some hints and tips for specific sound cards found
while testing Space GIRL under DOS.

       1.2.1. Creative Labs - Soundblaster 1.0/1.5 card

These early Soundblaster cards do not support some of
the features which are built into later versions of the
card. This may result in lower audio quality on
         these cards.

       1.2.2. Soundblaster Compatible Cards

The Soundblaster code in Space GIRL is written for 100%
Soundblaster compatible sound cards made by Creative Labs.
If you have a Soundblaster compatible sound card from
another manufacturer you may experience stuttering or
popping in the sound, or even no sound at all.

If you are unsure of the correct Port, IRQ and DMA settings
for your Soundblaster compatible card, try typing SET from
the DOS prompt. If your machine has been configured with a
BLASTER environment variable in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file you
should see a line similar to:

         SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 T4

The number after the A (i.e., 220 in this case) is your port
address; the number after the I (5 in this case) is your IRQ
and the number after the D (1 in this case) is your DMA channel
setting. Armed with these numbers you can go ahead and manually
select your soundcard from the SETUP program and enter the Port,
IRQ and DMA in the boxes when prompted. If you have a Soundblaster
16 or AWE32 soundcard and you are having difficulty with
autodetection, these same comments apply except that you may
have to enter the number after the H as your DMA setting,
         depending on your configuration.

       1.2.3. Compaq Computers

Some Compaq machines may not autodetect the installed sound
card. If this occurs, try selecting Sound Blaster Pro/Pro2
         from the SETUP program.

       1.2.4 Dolby Surround

Dolby Surround won't work on mono sound card like earlier
Sound Blaster 1.5/2.0, or some Soundblaster pro clone.

   1.3. Video Card Troubleshooting

If you know that your video card is VESA 2.0 compatible, select it
from the setup. Run Univbe to get VESA 2.0

   1.4. 3D Acceleration

      You can either choose between
       * Software Emulation Mmode.
       * 3DFX mode (with Glide 2.x installed, if not, DOSSETUP will copy
the glide2x.ovl in a search path (like c:\windows)
       * S3 Virge mode : The 320X200 mode is strongly recommanded for speed.

   1.5 Memory management

8Mb is the minimum required, but 16Mb is recommanded for full sound,
enabling Surround etc, high detailled texture.

You should select 16Mb or 8Mb mode in DOSSETUP.

If you receive a 'can't alloc xxxxx bytes', try to boot will the
maximum of extended memory (no xms, or no ems, no smartdrv for example.
Base memory (640Kb conventional memory) doesn't care at all.

 2. DOS box under Windows 95

2.1. Running Space GIRL in a Windows 95 DOS box

The DOS version of Space GIRL will run as a DOS box process under
Windows 95. This might be useful if:

     - You have a 486 class machine running Windows 95 and
performance of the Windows 95 version of Space GIRL is too
slow in the native Windows 95 environment.

     - You do not have Microsoft DirectX compatible video drivers (certified)
installed on your Windows 95 system.

If you install Space GIRL in Windows 95 but wish to play the DOS
version, the setup program will launch to set up the sound
     settings.

   2.2. Running DOS setup

To run the DOS setup under Windows 95 (to change your
sound card settings) you should first open an MS-DOS
prompt, change to the drive where you installed Space GIRL,
change to the directory where Space GIRL is installed (by
     default C:\RT) and type SETUP.

   2.3. Running Cyberman 2

     - Click Logitech Entertaintment in the Control Panel.
     - Click Game Setup.
     - Click Import Game Settings.
     - Get cyberman.les in the /drv_pc subdirectory where the
       game is installed.
     - Select DOSSpace.BAT

 3. Windows 95

   3.1. Microsoft DirectX

The Windows 95 version of Space GIRL is a Microsoft DirectX application, and
will use all the potentials of your PC (3D acceleration, MMx, AGP optimization)
Version 5.0 of Microsoft DirectX is included on the CD and you have the option to
install it when Space GIRL is installed.

Warning : if the Dxsetup.exe crashes or you haven't got CERTIFIED drivers (not
'No hardware support' for no mention 'certified', please use the MS Dos version
     instead.

If you have difficulty running Windows 95 after these new
Microsoft DirectX drivers have been installed, please contact
your local Microsoft subsidiary, or write:

     Microsoft Customer Sales and Service,
     One Microsoft Way,
     Redmond, WA 98052-6399, USA

     USA telephone: 1-800-426-9400
     International telephone: ++1-206-882-8080

     http://www.microsoft.com/DirectX

All Microsoft DirectX drivers are located in the Dxsetup folder
off of the root of the CD. To reinstall the Microsoft DirectX
drivers go into the DirectX folder and run Dxsetup.exe, or click on Install Direct X 5
     in the Windows Game Setup.

   3.2. Known video card problems

Here are some hints and tips for specific video cards found
while testing Space GIRL under Windows 95.

3.2.1. Unable to allocate primary video buffer

If you receive an "Unable to allocate primary buffer"
error message try reinstalling the Microsoft DirectX drivers.
If reinstalling the Microsoft DirectX drivers does not solve
this problem, then that means that your video card manufacturer has
not updated their video drivers to be Microsoft DirectX compliant.
Call your video card manufacturer for updated drivers.

   3.3. 3D Acceleration.

There is an optimized 3DFX version (with Glide 2.x installed).
If the glide2x.dll is missing, it will automatically copied in
your the windows path, but we strongly recommand install the
   Glide 2 drivers properly.

For Direct 3D Acceleration, by default, the game is running at
640x480, so change it to an other resolution.
4Mb of video memory (and at least 2Mb of texture memory) is recommanded

Check that an HAL driver for Direct 3D is installed, else you will run in
Direct 3D Software Emulation Mode rendering mode which very slow.

   3.5. Multiplayer Game

Direct X 5 MUST be installed for a multiplayer game.

 4. BeOS Preview Release

   4.1. GameKit

The BeOS Preview Release version of Space GIRL runs under BeOS PR (DR 9.x)
   for PowerPC.

Since the 3DFX and the Software version are build in the same executable
See the step 4.2 b) for launching problem.

Some machines which run with the 'stub' driver (you cannot change
the desktop resolution support. There is no palette 256 colors, so
the display will look weird. There is no solution, until a driver
for your video card is released.

   4.2. 3D Acceleration.

      There is a 3DFX 3D acceleration support.

    a) Copy the driver, thdfx, into /home/config/add-ons/kernel/drivers. If
this directory doesn't exist, create it.

    b) Copy the library, lib/lib3DfxGlide2X.so, into /home/config/lib.

 ============================================================================
 5. MacOS

There is no special remarks for MacOS version. There is no joystick
support. It was tested on a 604/180Mhz.

There is also a 3DFX 3D acceleration support.
