SECTION 1 - Trouble Shooting
----------------------------

Frogger requires Microsoft DirectX Version 5 or above to run. The installation program will install this for you. The DirectX installation does not neccessarily include the latest drivers for your video card. You will need to contact your hardware manufacturer to obtain the latest versions.

Even if other games and applications work fine on your machine, there is no guarantee that Frogger, or any other new application, will work as well. Frogger uses Microsoft DirectX technologies and Direct3D in particular.

Most problems with running software can be easily overcome by checking a few items which we have listed below.

If you continue to have problems, please contact Hasbro Technical support. You will find details on how to do this at the bottom of this file.

SECTION 1.1 - Performance Problems
----------------------------------

Frogger is optimised for 3d cards

Several aspects of your computer affect the performance of software running on your machine, and Frogger is no different in this respect. Among the major components affecting speed are:

Video card In general the older the card the slower it is. Consider upgrading
to a better video card or, better yet, one with 3d acceleration.

RAM The amount of RAM your machine has affects the performance of all
applications. Frogger requires a minimum of 16Mb of RAM but you
will notice a marked reduction in pauses if you have more memory
			than this.

Other applications Other applications will compete with Frogger for RAM and for
processing time. If you are getting poor performance or pauses
mid-game, try quitting out of all other applications which
you have running in the background.

Processor speed This obviously has an impact on the speed of your machine but a
poor video card, or too little RAM will cripple even the most
			powerful processor

In Software mode ("No 3d card" and "MMX" in VideoSetup) in particular the amount that has to be drawn is the biggest cause of slowdown. You can reduce the amount the game has to draw in two ways:
1. Select a lower resolution in VideoSetup - select "Custom" and choose the smallest set of numbers from the "Display Size" box.
2. Use F7 to shrink (and F8 to enlarge) the screen. This function works on the options screen and in single player pause mode.

Because Frogger is a state of the art 3d game, the Development team strongly recommends you pop out and buy a 3DFX powered card for playing Frogger.

SECTION 1.1.1 - Videosetup says "No 3d Card"
--------------------------------------------

Frogger uses Microsoft DirectX for displaying the graphics when running in "No 3D card" mode. Keep an eye out for updates to these drivers as these will most likely have the largest impact on the speed of Frogger.

Without new drivers the best way to speed up Frogger is to follow the guidelines listed in Section 1.1. The easiest of these options is to use F7 and F8 to change the display size. The less Frogger has to draw the faster it will go.

If you have any problems with your video card, the most likely explanation is that the drivers you are using are out of date - even if you got them recently. Follow these steps to resolve the problem.

1. Make a note of the drivers you are currently using (See Section 1.3)
2. Contact your hardware vendor and find out if these drivers are the latest version
3. Run Microsoft Direct3D demos. If these exhibit the same problems as you are seeing in Frogger call your hardware vendor and report the bugs with their drivers. There is nothing Hasbro can do to resolve these problems
4. Contact Hasbro Technical support and report the problem. Be sure to tell us the card type and version number of the driver you are using.

SECTION 1.1.2 - Videosetup says "MMX"
-------------------------------------

Frogger uses Microsoft DirectX for displaying the graphics when running in "MMX" mode. Keep an eye out for updates to these drivers as these will most likely have the largest impact on the speed of Frogger.

Selecting "MMX" in the VideoSetup program produces better looking graphics but this comes at a cost. If your machine is one of the earlier MMX machines (say a P166MMX) then it may be that best gameplay performance will be achieved by switching to "No 3d card".

You should also read through the guidelines in Section 1.1. As with "No 3d Card" reducing the amount that Frogger has to draw will speed up the game.

SECTION 1.1.3 - Videosetup says you're using a 3d card
------------------------------------------------------

You should be aware that there is a very large discrepancy between the performace of various different "3d accelerated" video cards.

The first thing to try is running Frogger using the "MMX" or "No 3d card" options. If this runs better than your 3d card then something is wrong. The two most likely reasons are that your 3d card is not particularly powerful (in which case you might consider buying a new one), or the drivers are out of date.

A 3d card containing the 3DFX chip set is a powerful card and will run Frogger excellently. If you have one of these cards but don't get the "Glide" option, refer to Section 1.1.4 on how to install the Glide Libraries.

SECTION 1.1.4 - Videosetup says Glide
-------------------------------------

You should use the "Glide" libraries to run Frogger, not the Direct3D drivers - Glide will perform much better.

Frogger supports 3DFX Glide 2.43 and higher. Voodoo Graphics users must have this updated version of Glide installed on their system. To install the updated Glide runtime driver kit, run the grtvgr243.exe file in the 3DFX folder of the Frogger CD.

SECTION 1.2 - Specific Problems
-------------------------------

* ATI RageII: At time of writing the latest drivers (as of date) on their web site have problems. Please use the ones installed by DX5.

* Rendition: Some people have noticed problems with Rendition based cards running at 512 wide screen modes. This appears to be a monitor problem. You should run Frogger in a different resolution

SECTION 1.3 - Finding out Version Numbers
-----------------------------------------

1. Right click on "My Computer"
2. Move down to "Properties" and left click
3. Select the "Device Manager" tab
4. Click on the "+" sign next to the folder containing your card. This will normally be either "Display Adaptors" or "Multimedia Devices" however they are sometimes installed in other areas. Look around for an entry with the same name as your card.
5. Left click on your Graphic cards name. This will highlight it
6. Left click on "Properties"
7. Click on the "Driver" tab
8. You will see a list of files. Left clicking on any of them will display its version number at the bottom of the dialogue box next to "File version:".
9. Write down the filename and file version number and use this information when talking to Technical support.

SECTION 2 - Network Gaming
--------------------------

There are two ways of running Frogger in "Network" mode. One is via an IPX network, TCP/IP, Serial or Modem. The other is via Microsoft Zone over the internet, which you can find out about by visiting www.zone.com.

SECTION 2.1 - Network Gaming
----------------------------
If you have problems with running Frogger on your network please consult the Frogger web site (www.frogger.com) or email Hasbro Technical Support at support@hasbro.com.
See the bottom of this file for further information on how to contact us.

SECTION 2.2 - Microsoft Zone.com
--------------------------------
Frogger supports Microsoft Zone.Com. To run over the Zone you will need to download a patch which is available from both the Zone (www.zone.com) and the Frogger web site (www.frogger.com)

SECTION 3 - Hints and Tips
--------------------------
> How to avoid those bees! Hide behind stumps. Don't try and outrun them - they're fast! Finally, use the powerups wisely.

> Keep running out of lives? Replay a level you're good at to build your lives up

>Can't find the baby frogs? Croak, and listen carefully for the reply. The louder it is, the closer you are

>Don't forget that when Frogger hops, momentum will affect him in the air. If you are jumping around on fast moving objects, make sure you jump early otherwise you'll travel past what you're trying to hop onto.

>Remember that your superhop gives you a few extra seconds of 'hang time'. This can be useful for hopping over fast moving objects such as mowers and cars.

>If you're stuck on a level, try watching the demo mode; it might give you a few ideas on how to approach the levels.

>Learn your baby frog positions. Once you know where all of the baby frogs are on each level, your task will become easier.

>Although the game may appear daunting at first, remember that Frogger's opponents all have patterns and the best way to beat the game is to learn those patterns. For example, once you know where the boulders bounce on Desert 2, climbing the slopes will be much easier....

>Learn the way the balloons move on the Sky levels but remember, they can only support Froggers weight for a short amount of time before they hop.....

>Know your friendly birds. There are some birds which will always give you a helping hand, no matter what level you are on.
