                -- DEADLY SKIES --

Welcome to this one level DEMO of Deadly Skies.
It is a Dog Fight game with a couple of new features
never seen in a flying game before. Powerbars, power-ups,
special moves, easy controls, no fat manual, not much
realism. Just fun, fun, fun!
Read through the whole file, it's not that long.

Before you start, you should use the SETUP program to setup your soundcard.
Type SETUP and follow the on-screen instructions. And don't forget to test
it!

 1: CONTROLS
*2: SPECIAL MOVES (Very important!!)
 3: WEAPONS
 4: TROUBLE-SHOOTING

Here is a little information about the demo you are
about to test. Enjoy it, and give it to all your
friends if you want to.

1: CONTROLS

        UP                  = Pitch down
        DOWN                = Pitch up
        RIGHT               = Roll right
        LEFT                = Roll left
        SPACE               = Fire guns
        LEFT Alt or ENTER = Fire current missile **
        LEFT Shift          = Throttle Increase
        LEFT Ctrl           = Throttle Decrease
        F1                  = Toggle view
        F2                  = Toggle HUD

        One of the first things many will notice, is the
        limitation of controls. Roll has been set to
        a maximum of 90 degrees, the pitch can not exceed
        30 degrees? What kind of a flying game is this?
        No simulator. That's for sure.
        So, in other words, how do you loop, roll and
        try some fancy flying? By activating special moves.

** May need lock-on to fire

2: SPECIAL MOVES

        These are triggered by special key combinations,
        and enable you to do tighter loops and faster turns
        than realistically possible. There are certain things
        to make sure of when triggering a special move.
        1: Remember to release one button before pressing the next.
        2: You have about 500-750 ms to do the combination.
        3: Some very "aggressive" special moves may require
           missiles, lock-on or other situations.

        Here are some. The rest are hidden, but if you start
        looking, you will probably find more of them.

        Loop             Down, Down, Up
        Roll             Right, Down, Left, Up
        Speed-Up         ?
        Airbrake         ?

        Cobra            Up, Up, Down
        Quickturn        Down, Down, Left
        Fist of Fire     ?
        Cloaking         ?
        Disrupt controls ?

3: WEAPONS

        The game contains four different weapons, each designed
        to be useful in different situations throughout the game.
   3.1  Heat seeker
        A standard heat seeking missile. Requires lock on.
        You have a maximum of 8 heat seekers, but you may refill
        missiles in the power-ups. Long range.
        Hint: As it is attracted to heat, it works best from behind.
   3.2  Backfire
        A backwards flying missile, launched to get rid of your tail.
        Make sure the enemy is not only behind you, but has approximately
        the same altitude.
        You have a maximum of 8 backfires, but you may refill them
        in the power-ups. Short range.
   3.3  Glidebombs
        Controllable missile with additional explosives.
        When this is fired, the screen changes and you are "inside"
        the missile. It is homing to a certain point, where you must
        take control, and make the hit yourself. Can be detonated by
        pressing ENTER or Left Alt, and if detonated within 100 meters from
        the enemy, he/she will feel the devastating power. More damage is
        inflicted the closer the explosion is.
        You have a maximum of 2 glide-bombs, but you may refill
        them in the power-ups. Long range.
   3.4  Heavy machine cannons
        Standard machine cannons, but with a slight homing ability
        if close to the opponent. Use the historical gunsight to improve
        your aim. Very useful at short range.

4: TROUBLE-SHOOTING

        If you should have any problems with the installation,
        try changing your Config.sys and Autoexec.bat files with
        the ones in the Deadly Skies directory. They will boot your machine
        clean, free of additional programs that may cause harm.

        This game requires 8 MB of RAM, and if you load programs
        like smartdrive and memory managers, you might end up with an
        "out of memory" error. If this happens, remove all memory-
        consuming programs from memory and try again.

        A good alternative is also to hold both shifts down while
        booting. Then you also boot entirely clean.

        Good luck!

        We hope you enjoy this game.
        Kind regards from everyone on the Deadly Skies team.
