Toca Data manager V1.1b
=======================

Intro
-----

This is a Windows tools to view, extract and import media data from Codemasters
excellent Touring Car Sim. This is an unofficial tool NOT supported by anyone,
especially Codemasters and should treated as a 'beta' product.

This version is (as far as I know) free from memory leaks and resource hogging :)

v1.3b Infomation
----------------

CHANGES FROM 1.2b:
You can now delete vertices and polygons. Only restriction is model cannot have
more verts or polys than the original exported model.

Features:

- Export/Imports 3d data using the 3DS format, which is a binary format.
- UV (texture) coordinates can be updated.
- Export/Import Bitmaps..
- Export All - exports all models and bitmaps within a 'CM3D' object

BUG: Cant read BMP's which are not part of CM3D object
Report any bugs to : RobJames@dial.pipex.com

How-To
------

Extract the zipped file. This will create the necassary folder tree to export/import
data.

Run Tedit.exe

This utility works by allowing you to 'open' the bfp files found in the Tourcar/data
folder. It assumes you are using the 'FakeCD' utility or similar to run TOCA from your
hard-drive (otherwise you wont be able to edit the bfp files!).

Check out http://ds.dial.pipex.com/jmhnet/toca/main.html for details on FakeCD and TOCA.

When you open a bfp file (eg allcars.bfp) you will see a tree view containing all
the CM3D Objects found within the data file. Each CM3D object may contain both 3D model
data and associated bitmaps.

Click on the CM3D item to see an expanded list of 3D data and bitmaps.

Right-click on a 3d or bitmap icon to bring up the TEdit menu. The options you should see are
View, Export, Import and Cancel. You can also right-click on a 'CM3D' to export ALL the objects
with it.

1) Viewing a bitmap brings up you default bitmap viewer with a temporary copy of the bitmap.
Editing this HAS NO EFFECT on the stored image.

2) Exporting a bitmap or 3D object creates a unique file in the folder tree created when you
installed TEdit. All bitmaps/3DS files from a particular bfp file go to the relevent folder,
e.g bitmaps from allcars.bfp will get exported to data/allcars.

The filename of the exported bitmap is used by Tedit to keep track of the offset and
bitmap size within the data file. DO NOT CHANGE THE NAME OF THE EXPORTED BITMAP!

You can now use you favorite editors (Painshop PRO, 3D Studio Max) to create you own
cars/car sets.

3) Importing a bitmap causes TEdit to look in the matching folder for the matching
bitmap. It will automatically adjust the bitmap length to (the bitmaps in TOCA appear
to have a couple of zero-bytes padded onto the end which get chopped by some bitmap
editors) and it will update all the copies of the bitmap found in the data file.

Save your modified bfp from the main menu. The bfp files can be retrieved from the
TOCA CD if they get corrupted!

Bugs
----
Lots - please report any to RobJames@dial.pipex.com

To-Dos
------

Make the default 'open' directory the same as your Toca installation directory.

Make the bitmap naming more user-friendly. I'm thinking of create a 'bitmap name mapping
file' which would contain a list of all 'internal' bitmap names with a list of user
supplied names. When you select extract it would ask you want you want to call the file
(e.g. MyHonda.bmp) and it would store the mapping between this filename and the offset
within the data file.

Add 'export all' and 'import all' options to speed up car-set editing.
Add internal bitmap quick-view rather than calling 'Paint'.
Add internal 3d model quick-view rather than nothing - perhaps OpenGL.
